Annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes

The International Order of Malta Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place over the first weekend of May each year.  It is the largest of the international pilgrimages coming to Lourdes.

The Irish Order of Malta joins up with approx 6,000 pilgrims from other National Associations in Europe, the Americas, and Australia to become one big family for the Lourdes Pilgrimage.   Each National Association including the Irish Order of Malta brings a large number of sick pilgrims to Lourdes.

In recent years the Irish group has included members from Australia and Scandinavia working as part of our team.  Typically there are over 500 pilgrims from Ireland, of whom 100 are sick pilgrims and who are our special guests.

Spiritual and Leisure Programme
The Order of Malta arranges an extensive programme of spiritual activities for the five day visit.  The Blessing of the Sick, the Blessed Sacrament Procession and the Torchlight procession take place each day in Rosary Square.  The Rosary Basilica, the Crypt and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception dominate the Square.  There are also opportunities to visit places of interest in the vicinity.

The 2010 Pilgrimage will take place from 30th April-6th May.  There are a limited number of seats for return on Wed 5th May.
